The University of East London (UEL) is a dynamic and diverse institution located in the heart of one of the world’s most vibrant cities. Established in 1898 as the West Ham Technical Institute, UEL has evolved over the decades, achieving university status in 1992. Campuses and Facilities

UEL operates primarily from two campuses: the Docklands Campus and the Stratford Campus.

  • Docklands Campus: Opened in 1999, this campus is situated adjacent to the Royal Albert Dock, offering picturesque waterfront views. It boasts modern architectural designs and is directly connected to central London via the Cyprus station on the Docklands Light Railway. The campus features state-of-the-art facilities, including a 24/7 library, student residences, and dedicated spaces for various academic disciplines. 
  • Stratford Campus: Located in the historic Stratford district, this campus seamlessly blends traditional and contemporary architecture. It houses the Cass School of Education and Communities, the School of Health, Sport and Bioscience, and the School of Psychology. The Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021 recognized that 55% of UEL’s research is categorized as ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent.’ Notably, areas such as health, sustainability, social policy, and computer science have garnered significant acclaim, with 100% of impact cases in these fields rated as outstanding. 

Rankings and Recognitions

UEL’s commitment to addressing societal challenges has been acknowledged globally. In the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2020, UEL was ranked number 1 in the UK and 2nd globally for addressing inequalities. This recognition underscores the university’s dedication to impactful research on social disparities and its proactive approach to fostering equality and inclusivity.
